Karen’s Yellow—a bright golden yellow

A beautiful start to your next handmade project, this yarn needs only your imagination to turn into something wonderful!

  • 100% bouncy, durable Suffolk and Suffolk-cross wool yarn
  • 196 yards/179 meters
  • 2-ply worsted weight
  • sustainably made in North American from US-grown wool
  • hand-dyed with professional-grade acid dyes

Suffolk Worsted is spun from the wool of US Suffolk and Suffolk-cross sheep. One of the six "true" down breeds that originated on the downs of southern England in the nineteenth century, Suffolks were developed by crossing Southdown rams with Norfolk Horn ewes, and were recognized as a distinct breed in 1810. According to The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook, they are the most common breed of sheep in North America.

Suffolk wool’s irregular crimp makes this yarn highly elastic and warm, with a slightly crisp hand. Some could wear this yarn next to the skin; for others it would make a great sweater to go over a shirt.

This woolen-spun yarn is made by Mountain Meadow Wool Mill, in Wyoming, a women-owned mill that is committed to environmental sustainability and to supporting American fiber growers.

Suffolk Worsted has been minimally-processed to preserve its natural liveliness and bounce. Though the wool has been thoroughly washed and carded, it has not been treated with harsh chemicals to remove every last trace of vegetable matter. Any that remains may be easily picked out while knitting.

This colorway was inspired by my friend Karen’s sunny disposition.

I use professional grade acid dyes that are light-fast and wash-fast, and I strive to run my dye studio in an environmentally-sensitive way.
